History Repeats Itself, Sometimes Violently
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2844542/the_hutaree_and_the_second_coming_of.html

the latest evidence of which appears to be the arrest of nine people in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio on seditious conspiracy charges. Those nine people apparently belonged to a militia group known as the Hutaree who not only believe that mankind has entered the Christian biblical "end times" but that it was their Christian duty to oppose local, state and federal authorities who are considered part of a "New World Order." Even worse, the Hutaree had planned for two years to assassinate federal, state or local police officers, according to the indictment issued by federal prosecutors.

The Hutaree share an ideology that is common with these survivalist/end-of-the-world militias. They believe that the established government is either bogus or has betrayed the will of the people, that the world is slowing becoming or has already become a one-government system (hence, the "New World Order," which commonly refers to the United Nations), and that their Christian-based belief system mandates their actions. It was such a set of beliefs that fostered the rise of the Michigan Militia, the organization that Timothy McVeigh and his cohorts belonged to and felt had chosen word over action, giving impetus to their plans that led to the Oklahoma City Bombing.
Does the Hutaree militia raise a red flag of growing far-right violence?
http://thesop.org/story/opinion/2010/03/31/does-the-hutaree-militia-raise-a-red-flag-of-growing-farright-violence.php

The Hutaree believe that the feds are conspiring to create one-world government and so a war is at hand, that is, between Christians and the Antichrist. Exactly who is the Antichrist? This is unclear from "Hutaree theology,` but I would think it must be Barack Obama, since he`s the president of the federal government.

... One might write off the Hutaree as a one off, an oddity with no future ramifications. I can`t really do that. Many incidents of the past come to mind: Ruby Ridge, The Branch Davidians in Waco and Timothy McVeigh`s bombing of federal building in Oklahoma City. These anti-government hate groups don`t mind using violence to achieve their ends. And in the case of David Karesh they don`t mind using "end of time` rhetoric, supposedly culled from the Book of Revelations, that employs Christ in their paranoid obsessions. That is a Christ as a violent warrior, not as a peaceful messenger of "turn the other cheek.`

... So the threat of "domestic terrorism` is greater with these fringe militia groups on the far-right, and especially when they hinge their belief-systems to twisted takes on Christianity, and purloin isolated passages from the bible (The Book of Revelations) for ill-purpose. When the federal building was bombed in Oklahoma City (1995) I thought (at first) it was "International Terrorists`. I was shocked to find out that Timothy McVeigh was just a disgruntled Gulf-War veteran!

And let us not forget Joseph Stack crashing his plane into an IRS building here in Austin. This was obviously an act of Domestic Terrorism. " Stack hated the government and was willing to kill innocent people to make his point. Stack shares some commonality with these Hutaree, only his weapon was a small airplane instead of IEDs. I fear these extremist groups will only multiply.

Militias 'Appalled' by Hutaree Suspects, FBI Says
http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/militias-appalled-by-mich-conspiracy-suspects-fbi-says/19421218

(March 31) -- The head of the FBI's Detroit office said Tuesday that other militias have distanced themselves from the nine members of the Midwest group who were indicted this week for plotting to kill law enforcement officers.

"I honestly think they don't believe the same things this group does," Andrew Arena told AOL News. "I think they were appalled."

In fact, there were media reports that an outside militia member went to the FBI after the Michigan-based Christian militia group Hutaree came to him for help. "It's true, he did," Arena said.

Arena said he didn't believe Hutaree is a very big organization. He said different people have trained and met with the group, and some have come and gone. "We don't have evidence they also crossed the line," Arena said.

This week, a massive federal raid in our area netted what we are told was a Christian terrorist organization planning to murder dozens of police in our region. Almost immediately, the other militia and pro-gun organizations distanced themselves. Who are the “Hutaree’s” and how are they different from the other militias? Well, the group are all republicans, 100%. No surprise there, in fact, the Michigan Militias have always been activist GOP, back into the 1990s. There is a much older history, though, one not taught in our schools.

The militias in Michigan and Ohio all have their roots in the KKK from back in the resurgent years of the 1920s. However, their primary activities were financial, they were “strike breakers” and “scabs,” turncoat shills for factory owners who looked for criminals and thugs to keep from paying fair wages. The Black Legion was not only the most violent arm of the KKK but also worked like their Nazi Germany counterparts, the SA and SS, to suppress organized labor. (Check out this history of the Black Legion)

... If it weren`t for our courageous police officers risking their lives to protect us, our society would quickly dissolve into anarchy.

But an alarming number of Tea Party members, Christian fundamentalists and and other conservative riff raff view cops as agents of the Antichrist.

There is a lot of hate brewing in the Tea Party Movement, the militia movement and other outposts of right-wing America, and it`s being stoked by Sarah Palin who uses violent imagery in her speeches, and other Republican leaders who demonize President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress.

Tea Party members have already committed acts of vandalism and issued death threats against Democratic politicians, how long will it be before they also start gunning down law enforcement officials? ...

Despite the obvious fact that the advertisement was for a completely lawful event organized by a group that has nothing to do with the Hutaree at all, CNN used the image to openly imply that the alleged cop-killing Hutaree members were part of the same organization, demonizing the second amendment and the Tea Party movement all in one fell swoop.

Despite the obvious fact that the Tea Party Militia and the Hutaree trained together several times since Obama was a candidate and within the past year.

ReTHUGs Continue to Spin the Hutaree Smackdown as Lefty Plot to Embarrass Them.

The Hutaree and MSNBC Militias
Scott Horton, March 30, 2010
http://www.antiwar.com/blog/2010/03/30/the-hutaree-and-msnbc-militias/

A safe first guess on a case like this is that the Feds have just made up another one. The formula is always the same for them: Find a person or a small group of people who are gullible and bordering on criminal, then trick them into saying, or sometimes even doing, something stupid and/or evil. See for example the Miami 7, the Detroit 5, the Lodi 1, the NY 2, the NY 4…

... The funny part is, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow reported Monday, “The FBI had infiltrated the group for several months,” attributing this information to Detroit News 4, though the closest thing this writer can find to that on their Web site is the assertion that “federal authorities had been monitoring the Hutaree members for some time.”

I’m betting Maddow’s interpretation that they had actually been infiltrated is accurate and that the worst of whatever these people actually did was at the urging of said federal agent.

... But anyway…

Over at the Reason blog Brian Doherty caught more liberals cheering on the police state and recommended a great article, “The Paranoid Center,” by Jesse Walker.

So What's the SPIN at the David H. Koch Reason Foundation blog, and it's Paranoid Center?

It turns out the referenced article was an old, 2009, article whitewashing the reichwinger connections of the Holocaust Museum Guard Killing and the George Tiller Murder ten days apart with some gratuitous references to Waco-Koresh-Davidians and Oklahoma City Murrah Bombing.

Hutaree militia arrests and the insidious mainstream interpretation
http://www.examiner.com/x-32940-Arlington-Conservative-Examiner~y2010m3d30-Hutaree-militia-arrests-and-the-insidious-mainstream-interpretation

But the race to define the Tea Party in the most unflattering terms has sadly been taken to a new low with the arrests of the Hutaree militia, where, within the space of 24 hours, the MSM have used the otherwise unrelated Hutaree story as evidence that the Tea Party protesters are part of a radical and dangerous movement.

...

That the Tea Party is being unjustly smeared in the process, by any event at hand, regardless of its connection or relevance, speaks to the lengths that the MSM will go in defense of their chosen path.

It is as sad as it is unworthy of an institution that has for so long been a guard of our Republic, but now gestates as an ignoble mouth piece for a specific government.

Of course "MSM" is reichwinger-speak for everybody who doesn't drink Fox Newz Koolaid, Fox being the 3rd largest news/media conglomerate on the world is not "main stream" or "media" to reichwingers.

Tea Party Hatriots throw Christian Militia Terrorists Under Their Bus

Group arrested not Christian or militia, insider says
http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/03/30/michigan.militia.arrests/?hpt=Sbin

Members of a militia charged with plotting to kill police were not Christian or a militia, a man acquainted with the group said Tuesday.

"This is a group that I would classify as neither a militia or a Christian group," said Michael Lackomar, a member of the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia. "They're really a fringe group outside of anything we do.

"They're more of a private army or a terrorist organization or really just a criminal organization."

You could say the same about all armed Tea Party Hatriots.

Harvard study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage

Harvard study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage

http://www.harvardscience.harvard.edu/medicine-health/articles/new-study-finds-45000-deaths-annually-linked-lack-health-coverage

Uninsured, working-age Americans have 40 percent higher death risk than privately insured counterparts. September 17, 2009

Nearly 45,000 annual deaths are associated with lack of health insurance, according to a new study published online today by the American Journal of Public Health. That figure is about two and a half times higher than an estimate from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2002.

The study, conducted at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance, found that uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts, up from a 25 percent excess death rate found in 1993.

“The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors, and baseline health,” said lead author Andrew Wilper, M.D., who currently teaches at the University of Washington School of Medicine. “We doctors have many new ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease — but only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”

The study, which analyzed data from national surveys carried out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), assessed death rates after taking into account education, income, and many other factors, including smoking, drinking, and obesity. It estimated that lack of health insurance causes 44,789 excess deaths annually.

Previous estimates from the IOM and others had put that figure near 18,000. The methods used in the current study were similar to those employed by the IOM in 2002, which in turn were based on a pioneering 1993 study of health insurance and mortality.

Deaths associated with lack of health insurance now exceed those caused by many common killers such as kidney disease. An increase in the number of uninsured and an eroding medical safety net for the disadvantaged likely explain the substantial increase in the number of deaths, as the uninsured are more likely to go without needed care. Another factor contributing to the widening gap in the risk of death between those who have insurance and those who do not is the improved quality of care for those who can get it.

The Republican National Committee spent about $30,000 in February on private airplanes and limousines. But those charges were overshadowed by the $1,946.25 charge at Voyeur West Hollywood, which was described by The Los Angeles Times last year as a “high-end nightclub” with an interior “reminiscent of the masked orgy scene” from the movie “Eyes Wide Shut.”

... Meanwhile, the F.E.C. filings show some $17,500 spent on private jets in February, in addition to more than $12,500 on limousines, which could add to the perception that Mr. Steele has expensive tastes. The filings also list several charges of well over $1,000 at hotels in Washington and elsewhere.

Coverage Now for Sick Children? Check Fine Print

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/29/health/policy/29health.html

Insurance companies are already arguing that, at least for now, they do not have to provide one of the benefits that the president calls a centerpiece of the law: coverage for certain children with pre-existing conditions.

... Insurers agree that if they provide insurance for a child, they must cover pre-existing conditions. But, they say, the law does not require them to write insurance for the child and it does not guarantee the “availability of coverage” for all until 2014.

...

“The concept that insurance companies would even seek to deny children coverage exemplifies why we fought for this reform,” said Representative Henry A. Waxman, Democrat of California and chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, Democrat of West Virginia and chairman of the Senate commerce committee, said: “The ink has not yet dried on the health care reform bill, and already some deplorable health insurance companies are trying to duck away from covering children with pre-existing conditions. This is outrageous.” ...

ACORN Non-Pimp O’Keefe to Plead Guilty to Misdemeanor

James O’Keefe, conservative activist, former ACORN non-pimp and employee of Andrew Brietbart, founder of BigGoverment.com and other right-wing Web sites, has reportedly reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, in return for a guilty plea to a misdemeanor. O’Keefe was arrested and charged with a felony of tampering with the telephone system of the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), along with three of his co-conspirators.

On Friday, federal persecutors released a bill of information, charging O’Keefe, 25, and his three conservative cohorts, Stan Dai, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, all 24, with a misdemeanor charge of entering a federal building on false pretenses. The new charges carry a penalty of a maximum prison term of six months and a fine of $5,000. A felony charge could have resulted in a prison term of up to 10 years.

The bill of information detailed O’Keefe’s plot:
